The tablet market is growing exponentially. And we all know, that this increase had started with the release of the original iPad. Yes, there were tablet PCs before then, but only after Apple’s attempt at the tablet market, was the tablet able to make its place between laptops and smartphones.
Apple has dominated the market with the 10″ iPad, but with the launch of the Nexus 7, Kindle Fire and the likes, Apple was now facing some stiff competition from the lower priced, smaller sized tablets. Steve Jobs had originally announced that there would be no smaller version of the iPad, but as times change, so does the mindset of the company.
So as to gives a response to the new budget tablets, Apple has released its new iPad Mini. It may not be priced in the same ballpark as the Nexus 4 and the Kindle Fire, but it is markedly less then the price of the standard sized iPad.
iPad Mini Specs
The iPad Mini specs are far from spectacular. In fact, with the iPad Mini, you get specs which are almost identical to those of the iPad 2. Is this a bad thing? Hell No.
The iPad 2 is still selling like hotcakes, and the iPad Mini is targeting a different audience. It is targeting two groups of people. The first group is the group which wants a quality Apple product, but doesn’t want to cough up the money which is needed to be spent on the full sized iPad. The second group of people, are the people who want an iPad, but also want it to be more portable, as they do not want to carry around a large 10″ device.
Getting back to the specs of the iPad Mini, it features
- 7 inch IPS Panel LCD Display with a resolution of 768 x 1024.
- Dual Core 1Ghz Cortex A9 Processor
- 5 Mp Rear Facing Camera capable of 1080p video recording
- 1.2MP front facing camera, capable of 720p video recording
- 16/32/64 GB internal memory, and 1 GB of RAM
- iOS 6 Pre-installed.
- Wifi, Bluetooth 4.0, 4G LTE
The specs of the iPad Mini are similar, if not less than the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD. This would be okay, if it were priced similarly, but this is not the case.
iPad Mini Price
The iPad Mini is priced at a starting point of $329 for the 16 GB version. This contrasts greatly to the $199 price tag of the Nexus 7. This may be hard to swallow for many consumers, but before denouncing the iPad Mini, a few points must be taken into consideration.
The iPad Mini is miles ahead of the competition when it comes to build quality. Upon seeing and using the iPad Mini, it cannot be denied that the competition feels like a toy compared to the iPad Mini.
Also, the iPad Mini has a screen-size which is an inch larger then the competition. This is a major advantage.
On the software front, you are getting to be a part of Apple’s large and established ecosystem, and as any user of Apple product knows, this comes at a price.
We are not vouching that the price of the iPad Mini is perfect. We are just saying that some people are being too harsh on its price
iPad Mini Release Date
The iPad Mini is now available world wide. It can be picked up either online, or from any major electronic retail store. The main question is should you pick it up?
If you really need a tablet, and it has to be from Apple, and you do not wish to spend too much, then yes. Pick up the iPad Mini.
If you are willing to wait, then we have a hunch that the iPad Mini with Retina Display may be coming earlier then you may be anticipating 😉
