Until Now, the latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, was available only on the high-end Android phones. To be true to this statement, ICS update is still not available for a majority of the high-end smartphones.
So, it comes as a shocker that Sony, who are known for late releases of Android updates, are going to release an Android handset for the budget minded, the Sony ST21i.
The phone will reportedly support a 800 Mhz Snapdragon Processor, with Adreno 200 GPU. The phone will come with a 3.2 inch display and a lowly resolution of 320 x 400 click here to investigate. A 3.2 MP camera, along with a front camera will also be featured.
Its nice to see that Sony is taking the initiative to release an Android phone, so that consumers on a tight budget can also taste the latest flavour of Android, but it would be better if the specs were upped a bit. 1 Ghz processors are not too expensive to manufactured, and if Sony included a larger processor for this budget phone, it would instigate other manufacturers to follow suite.
The launch date and price have not yet been confirmed, but expect this phone to launch in the sub $300 range without a contract.
Do you think this step taken by Sony is progressive, or will it just leave the consumer with a sour taste in their mouths. Leave your comments below.
