Acer has come out with their next-generation iteration of their 7 inch tablet line, in the form of the Acer Iconia Tab A110. Here we will discuss the specs, price and release date of the tablet, along with how it fares against the competition.

Acer is a company which we typically associate with laptops and desktops, but it has tested the waters in the tablet market with the Acer Iconia Series. These tablets have not been able to garner the attention which the like of Samsung, Asus or Apple have, but that does not mean that Acer is a weak competitor. Acer has released tablets which were of decent quality, but did not have any features which could separate them from the competition. Acer did have marginally lower pricing, but not low enough to make it  a better choice than what was available in the market at the time.

With the launch of the Nexus 7 and the Kindle Fire, the competition has romped up significantly in the 7 inch tablet market. In these competitive times, Acer has come out with the Acer Iconia Tab A110, which comes with decent specs, to try an establish a position in the battle for 7 inch tablet supremacy.

The Acer Iconia Tab A110 is no slouch when it comes to specs and build.  It may not be up there, build wise, as say, the iPad Mini, but is a decent alternative to what is present in the market at the time

Acer Iconia Tab A110 Specs

The Acer Iconia Tab A110 has specs which are at par with the competition. They may not match the likes of the full 10 inch counterparts, but for the price you pay, the specs are top notch.

  • 1.3 Ghz Nvidia Tegra 3 Processor (quad core)
  • 7 inch LCD Display with resolution of 1024×600
  • 1 GB RAM, and 8 GB internal memory
  • 2 MP Front Facing Camera capable of 720p video recording
  • Expandable Memory upto 32 GB
  • Android Version 4.1
  • Bluetooth 3.0, micro USB, micro HDMI, Wifi

As you can see, the specs of the Acer Iconia Tab A110 match the Nexus 7 in many respects. It, in fact, beats the Nexus 7, by having a microHDMI port, and expandable memory. But the resolution of the display does not match that of the Nexus 7, which is very evident. Apart from this, the Acer Iconia Tab A110 has pretty good specs.

The build quality is decent, but gives a cheap feel, due to being all plastic. It is 1 mm thicker then the Nexus 7, but this is hardly noticeable.

Acer Iconia Tab A110 Price

The Acer Iconia Tab A110 is priced at $230 for the 8 GB version, but can now be purchased for a limited time, for only $209

This price is a steal, and is around the ballpark of the Kindle Fire and Nexus. This is good, as you get the additional features of an HDMI port and expandable memory. If a back facing camera is something which you are interested in, then you may check out the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 for the festive season, which is priced at only $294 for the festive season

Acer Iconia A110 Release Date

The Acer Iconia Tab A110 has been released in all major markets and can be picked up worldwide.

Acer Iconia A110 vs Kindle Fire HD/Kindle Fire

The Acer Iconia A110 is a good purchase for what its worth, but how does it fare against the Kindle Fire series, who have established a name in the same weight category?

Lets get first things first, the Acer Iconia A110 is better than the non HD Kindle Fire.

But if we were to compare it against the Kindle Fire HD , we would be in a tiff. The Kindle Fire HD has a markedly better display than the Acer Iconia A110, and also better build quality. The deal breaker here, again would be lack of expandable storage, which may make you gravitate towards the Acer Iconia A110

Acer Iconia Tab A110 vs Nexus 7

The Nexus 7 suffers the same drawbacks as the Kindle Fire HD, but has one huge advantage  which is the presence Vanilla Android, which according to us, is the best version of Android. Still, if you purchased the Acer Iconia A110, you would not be disappointed.

The Acer Iconia A110 is a decent tablet, which can be placed in the league of the Nexus 7 and the Kindle Fire HD. It has comparable specs, but suffers in the fact that it does not have the name value as the Nexus 7 or Kindle. It has the presence of HDMI and expandable memory going for it, and we dont think you would be disappointing if you picked it up.
